A periwinkle sea snail is typically found on rocky shores and in Tide pools along intertidal areas. They eat the algae on the rocks and small invertebrates and are usually found in colonies. When they are out of water, they seal the opening of their shell, keeping the moisture inside with their muscular foot, preventing drying out . Their shell grows with the periwinkle and they can grow up to 16 - 38mm.
